LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT

•        Local, State, National

WHO IS ANSWERABLE?

•        Water shortage

•        Communicable diseases

•        Dirty streets

•        Spread of diseases

•        Pollution, water problems

MEMBERS OF LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLE

•        Elected by people

•        Become member of legislative assembly

•        Form Govt.

•        Representative people

•        Elected by people and so its people who have real say

•        Authorize and supervise work

•        Have executive responsibility

•        Constituency is an area from which the voters living that region choose their representatives and each constitution has one representatives

•        Opposition- all other parties than ruling party and blame the govt.

CHIEF MINISTER

•        MLA from ruling party will elect their leader

•        He select other ministers

•        Responsible to run  govt. departments

•        Different ministers have separate offices

GOVERNORS

•        Head of the state

•        Appointed by the central Govt. to ensure that state Govt. works within the rules and regulations of the constitution

•        He appoints Chief Minister and other Ministers

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

•        Place where MLA from ruling and opposition party meet is called Legislative Assembly

•        Some MLA have dual roles : as MLA and as Minister

•        Express opinions and issues

•        Ask questions and give suggestions

•        Decisions must be approved by MLAs

•        Debates like- death due to diahorrea, lack of beds on hospitals, ORS distribution, water shortage, infrastructure, sanitation, etc.

WORKING OF GOVERNMET

•        People express views

•        Press conference- journalists invited to hear and ask questions- ministers explain the steps

•        Ministers visit people and allow compensation or whatsoever required

•        Look for high level inquiry committee

•        Action is taken by PWD, health department, etc.

•        News paper and media play a major roles

•        Govt. can make new laws, build toilets in every urban area, appoint health workers in each village.
