THE TROPICAL AND THE SUBTROPICAL REGION

LIFE IN THE AMAZAN BASIN

        Near to equator

LIFE IN THE GANGA-BRAHMAPUTRA BASIN

The tributary rivers of Ganga and Brahmaputra form the Ganga- Brahmaputra Basin

        Lies between 10 degree N and 10 degree S

Tributaries of Ganga- the Ghaghra,  the Son, the Chambal, the Gandak, the Kosi

        Sundarban delta in this basin

        Dominated by Monsoon climate

The Monsoon brings rain from mid-June to mid-September

Summers are hot, winters are cool

Soil is very fertile, dense population in plain area

        Less population in mountain region

Crop- wheat, maize, sorghum, gram and millets

        Main crop- paddy

        Cash crop- sugarcane, jute

Silk worm cultivate in Bihar and Assam
